Maine Academy Decathlon
"ACADEMIC DECATHLON
RACE ABOUT TO BEGiN"
The
race for the state title and the team to represent Maine at the National
Academic Decathlon competition in Garden Grove, California will begin with the
preliminary round of tests on Saturday, November 17th. The theme of the Academic Decathlon this year is "The U.S. Civil War, 1961-1965."
Preliminary competitions will be held at Bangor High
School, CalaisHigh School, Monmouth
Academy and Sanford High School. Seventeen
schools from around the State will take tests in Art, Music, Economics, Social
Science, Mathematics, Language and Literature and Super Quiz. The Super Quiz topic this year is “The U.S.
Civil War”.
Participating schools this year include:
Bangor High School, Calais High School,
Deering High School, Ellsworth High School, Hall-Dale High School, Houlton High
School, Leavitt Area High School, Massabesic High School, Monmouth Academy,
Mountain Valley High School, Oak Hill High School, Orono High School, Portland High
School, SanfordHigh School,
Scarborough High School, Thornton Academy, and Woodland High School
This year’s competition is being sponsored by DemiDec,
Finance Authority of Maine(FAME), Horace Mann Insurance Company, and Shepherd’s
Chiropractic & Wellness Center.
