Ensemble Tremblay Director Allison Kiger announces
Mostly Mozart and Brahms 2008 Concert Season in Hancock
The Ensemble Tremblay will present a chamber music festival,
“Mostly Mozart and Brahms at Monteux” Sunday, August 3rd to Sunday,
August 24th, with chamber music concerts Sundays at 5pm and
Wednesdays at 7.30pm at the Pierre Monteux School Forest Studio in Hancock,
Maine. More information is available at www.ensembletremblay.com or at
917-583-1291.
Tickets are $20 for Adults and Seniors. Concerts are always
FREE for students and children 18 and under. A full season subscription is $80.
Director and Flutist Allison Kiger put together a season
program that features works by Mozart, as well as by the great Romantic
composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). Kiger says, “The emotional depth and
sublime beauty of Brahms’ music work well in contrast to the sparkling
perfection of Mozart.” This contrast will be featured in several of the
performances. On Sunday August 3rd, Christopher Johnson will play a
solo piano work by Mozart, and also the poetic Brahms Klavierstucke Op. 119,
his final piano works. Sunday, August 10th, Coloratura Soprano Megan
Weston will perform the infamous “Queen of the Night” aria from Mozart’s opera
the Magic Flute. This virtuosic aria is probably the most famous for the extra
high range of the Coloratura Soprano, and is uniquely difficult and rarely
performed in recital. Ms. Weston will also sing selections from Brahms’ canon
of Songs. On Sunday August 17th, Christopher Johnson will perform
Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 12 with strings, including his Mr. Johnson’s own
composed cadenzas, and will close the program performing Brahms’ Violins Sonata
in D Minor with Brennan Sweet.
Another exciting feature of the festival is the premiere of a new work by award-winning composer Darryl Kubian. While performing with the NJ Symphony, Director Kiger was a player for the world premiere of 3-2-1 for Electric Violin and Orchestra by Darryl Kubian, conducted by Neeme Jarvi. Kiger was immediately taken with the work, especially the second movement of the piece, Zeno's Paradox. The entire concerto is explores the theme of the expansion of the universe. The second movement, featuring the solo violin, flute, and accompanying strings, portrays light and dark elements of the universe in perfect balance and harmony. Kiger contacted Kubian and requested the transcription for a chamber music group of flute and string quartet. Kubian extended the movement and retitled it, "A Singularity Theme." Kiger will give the first performance of the transcription with another NJ Symphony member who played in the Premiere, NJSO Assistant Concertmaster Brennan Sweet, and his wife Christine Sweet, who also attended the performance. Kiger says, "We are very excited for the opportunity to play this beautiful and inspiring music, and very grateful to Darryl Kubian for his transcription."
Performing for the first time in Maine will be Coloratura
Soprano Megan Weston with pianist Michael Fennelly, and the Trio du Parc, a
piano trio with returning artists Alex Losowski, Gwendolyn Smith, and pianist
Angela Park, as well as Francois Vailleries, viola.
Returning to the festival are Flutist Allison Kiger, Pianist
Christopher Johnson, Violinists Tristan Lemieux and Brennan Sweet, Cellists
Gwendolyn Smith and Christine Sweet, the Acadian Chamber Players, led by
Jeffrey Ellenberger, and the Moonlight Duo, Karen Pinoci, cello, and Claudia
Lemmerz, piano.
All concerts take place at the Pierre Monteux School Forest
Studio on Old Track Rd., north of Route 1, in Hancock, Maine. The inspiring
history, warm acoustics, and pastoral charm of the Forest Studio make it ideal
for musical performance.
The Ensemble Tremblay was founded by Allison Kiger with other
alumni of the Pierre Monteux School.
