Downeast Lakes Land Trust will continue its ongoing “History & Heritage” series of educational community events with a presentation on “Birding By Ear” on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the Grand Lake Stream Town Building on Water Street.

A lot of Mainers like to watch birds, but learning to identify their songs can be tough to do on your own. Maine expert Bob Duchesne will offer six tips for making it a lot easier. His presentation will focus on local species – in many cases local people will already be familiar with their songs, but may not yet confidently know which species is singing which song.

Duchesne is a frequent birding tour guide and the founder of the Maine Birding Trail, which includes the Downeast Lakes Land Trust’s Farm Cove Community Forest.

The Downeast Lakes Land Trust is a nonprofit organization contributing to the long-term economic and environmental well-being of the Downeast Lakes region through the conservation and exemplary management of its forests and waters.  DLLT owns and manages the 27,080-acre Farm Cove Community Forest for wildlife habitat, forest products, and public recreation.  As a member of the Downeast Lakes Forestry Partnership, DLLT has helped protect another 312,000 acres of timberland through conservation and public access easements, and it is currently working to conserve another 6,644 acres around Wabassus Lake.
