STAR Celebration March 13

Five Town Communities That Care will
hold a community celebration to honor the accomplishments of students in the
winter cycle of STAR on March 13th, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Penobscot Bay
YMCA in Rockport.  The awards ceremony and dinner will
take place from 6-7; participants and their families are invited to socialize
and enjoy the YMCA's facilities from 7-8.

During this cycle STAR students studied
animal husbandry at Aldermere Farm; Hip Hop dance at the Rockport Dance
Conservatory; Rock Climbing at the Penboscot Bay YMCA; Martial Arts at Midcoast
Martial Arts; Swimming at the Country Inn; Child Care education at People Place;
Sewing at Camden Hills Regional High School; Tennis at Midcoast Recreation Center;
and science, technology, engineering and math virtually through Zoey's
room.

Since its beginning in 2003, STAR has
served 30% of the current 9th grade class, 49% of the current 8th grade class,
45% of the current 7th grade class, 47% of the current 6th grade class, and 24%
of the current 5th grade class in the five-town area.

STAR is offered at no cost to
participants through the generosity of the local community and support from the
Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group. Five Town Communities That Care offers
STAR to increase opportunities for youth to be engaged in prosocial activities
and to increase the community's recognition of its prosocial youth.
