Put your root down
This week's column is all about shopping for plants, and the blog is no exception.
If you're in Orono this Saturday morning, check out the fabulous offerings at the Church of Universal Fellowship's annual sale. The church is on Main Street. While you're there, make a detour into the parking lot of Pat's Pizza (off Pine or Mill Streets), where you'll find loads of annuals, perennials and herbs at the farmers market, which has moved for a week from its usual location in the University of Maine's Steam Plant lot.
Retail more your style? Go to Mardens, where spring-planting bulbs are packed to sell at $2.50 -- gladiolus and dahlias were among the highlights.
Satisfy your yen for cool garden accents at rock-bottom prices at T.J. Maxx 'n More in Bangor, where I picked up a three-pack of solid metal garden tools for $14.99 (they're rugged and attractive).
Between this and the shopping tour, you should stay busy for a few days, anyway. As always, happy shopping, and happy gardening, too!
